Really Trivial Trivia
The
cocktail shaker evolved slowly with the addition of ice,
fruits, and juices to the simple cocktail and punch
recipes of the 1860's. The earliest patent for a
cocktail shaker apparatus was in 1872. Since that first
patent, the cocktail shaker has inspired hundreds of
inventors to patent their unusual and unique versions.
There are two basic styles: the Boston and the
Cobbler. The Cobbler style is the one we
have seen in all the old movies. They are usually all
metal with a top that has a smaller cap, which opens to
reveal a strainer. These are mostly used in Martini Bars
and at home. The Boston Shaker is actually a set. Once
piece being the mixing tin of 26 oz. and the other a 16
oz. tempered glass. This style of shaker takes a lot
more practice but offers more versatility. This is the
one you will find at most restaurant bars.

Garnishes are defined as "something to add color or flavor". How about both?
A garnish should be chosen for size, beauty, and freshness. Preparation is also important. Garnishes should be cut just prior to adding them to a drink.
Here are the majority of garnishes that you might use most often.
Maraschino Cherries, Lemon, Lime and Pineapple Wedges for placing on drink rims. Lemon and Orange Spirals
for dropping in martini's. And Lemon, Lime and Orange Wheels for placing on drink rims. Whole Strawberries and Raspberries for rimming or dropping into the drink.
Some fun additions might be Jolly Rancher Candies, Gummie Fish, Sharks and Watermelon Slices.
