Cosmopolitan History
A Martini. The drink that James Bond always ordered. Tuxedos. Expensive cars. A single olive, pierced through its heart with a crystal clear pick.
My how times have changed! The Cosmopolitan drink first appeared on menus in the late 80's in New York City at the Odeon in TriBeCa,
and first in San Francisco at the Fog City Diner. A Woman named C. Cook invented it in South Beach, Miami.
It is now the most recognized drink in the world. The contemporary recipe for the Cosmo goes back to the marketing of Absolut
Citron Vodka. If you go back further, Ocean Spray began promoting liquor with their product aggressively
from 1956 to 1970. One featured cocktail was made with 1 oz. of vodka and 1 oz. of cranberry juice. Sound familiar? Add Cointreau and you have a Cosmopolitan!
More Trivia
Adrian Barbe, owner of the Irish Pub Hurley's Saloon in New York City, attributed much of his success to the men he put behind his bar. He would say about his bartenders, "I don't care what nationality they are, as long as they are Irish behind my bar".
